Available until September 1, 2026: pre-publication copies of Timeline 1800-1899, 382 pp. with full-color illustrations. These copies have an image of the Saint-Gaudens “Striding Liberty” coin on the cover, as below. (I’m a bit fond of Saint-Gaudens: here and here.)

1st option: print copy for $62
8.5 x 11”, 382 pp. with full-color illustrations on premium paper. It’s a lovely object.
Price of $62 includes postage: Amazon to me for signing, and me to you via USPS Media Mail.
If you’re outside the US, email me (DuranteDianne@gmail.com) and we’ll figure out the international shipping fee.
When the print version of the book is published on 9/15/2026 on Amazon and Ingram, the price will be $62, plus whatever shipping your bookseller charges.
2nd option: PDF for $15
I haven’t been offering pre-publication copies in digital format because I can’t sign a digital copy. But this time, I’m offering a digital copy with the Saint-Gaudens “Striding Liberty” coin on the PDF’s cover image. Cheaper for you, and all the $15 price (less transaction fees) comes to me. On a print copy sold via Amazon for $62, I get only a $5 royalty.
On 9/15/2026, Timeline 1800-1899 will be available as a PDF (non-flowable) from Gumroad, at $20.

Why get the book if you’ve read the Substack posts?
Timeline 1800-1899 includes the decade-by-decade chapters on the 19th century that I published over the past year on Substack. But sometimes editing later decades made a gap in earlier decades obvious. Hence I added some entries, as well as tweaking other entries for clarity and precision.
The final book also has material not included in Substack posts: an Introduction, four pages of statistics comparing the world in 1700, 1800, 1900, and 2000, and two appendixes. The 80-page index will be available by 9/15/2026 as a free downloadable PDF on DianneDuranteWriter.com, and will be part of the PDF version.

Revised version of Timeline 1700-1799
A revised version of Timeline 1700-1799 is now available on Amazon and Ingram ($40) and via Gumroad ($15). It includes several new entries, most notably one on Babeuf. This guy is mentioned in the Communist Manifesto {2/21/1848 Econ} as one of Marx’s heroes. I didn’t know such ideas could be traced so far back!
1797 (May 27): François-Noël (Gracchus) Babeuf is executed. Babeuf, a journalist, advocated radical egalitarianism: redistribution of land and income. In the 1790s, he is imprisoned several times for his political writings, which are too radical even for French revolutionaries. In 1796, he heads the “Conspiracy of Equals” that plans to overthrow the French Constitution of 1795 {10/26/1795 World}. For this he is guillotined. Babeuf’s techniques become a model for 19th- and 20th-c. revolutionaries: a small clandestine group conspires to overthrow the government by infiltration and subversion; it uses propaganda (newspapers, posters, songs) to rouse the masses; and it institutes a transitional dictatorship to impose the new political system. Babeuf is regarded as a martyr and a hero by 19th-c. revolutionaries such as Marx and Engels {2/21/1848 Econ}, who regard Babeuf as the 1st advocate of communism, and by Blanqui {1867-1868 Econ}.
